Training summary

This Degree aims to train students in the theories and methods of analysis of information and communication sciences to understand information and communication phenomena. The aim is to train professionals in journalism, communication and cultural mediation, as well as to develop their critical thinking with regard to the future professional situations of students.

 

 

Training aims

The training lasts three years and gives access to the world of work and to the Master in Information - Communication. 

She allows to :

  • understand the main concepts of information and communication sciences

  • know the principles of research in the human and social sciences

  • know the professions of journalism and communication

  • know how to design, produce and distribute documents to an audience

Advantages of the training


  • The training offers students the opportunity to acquire and/or develop professional skills in journalism, communication, cultural mediation, as well as transversal skills in digital tools and languages ​​(modern foreign language, written expression and oral expression). On the one hand, acculturation to the discipline begins from License 1, in accordance with the national framework and that of the establishment. Disciplinary teaching will also be provided from the first year by teacher-researchers in the sector. On the other hand, the proposal of two orientations, one multidisciplinary, including disciplinary majors and minors and sharing with other disciplines of the Human and Social Sciences (SHS), the other entitled "information professions and communication in the digital age (MICEN)”, ensures good visibility of the training.

  • The teaching team is made up of teacher-researchers from the Research Laboratory on Creole-speaking and French-speaking spaces (LCF), as well as professional teachers in journalism, communication and cultural mediation.

  • An important place is reserved for internships in a professional environment, particularly if the student chooses the career orientation of this Degree.

  • The training also takes into account strong social demand (students, professionals) locally and nationally.

Targeted skills

Identification of a question within a disciplinary field:

  • Identify and characterize the individual and institutional actors of information and communication, professional practices (in particular those of journalists), the communication media and the cultural and mediation industries, to situate the information and communication systems in their political, economic and social environment

  • Identify communication phenomena and devices and their arrangement, as well as mediation and mediatization processes, to design informational and communication devices and environments

  • Understand information, its content and its systems from the angle of representations, meanings or associated practices, to analyze or design information and communication devices.


Analysis of a question by mobilizing disciplinary concepts:

  • Mobilize the concepts relating to information and communication, their relationships and the different approaches related to them, to understand information and communication phenomena

  • Mobilize concepts relating to processes, productions, objects and uses of information and communication, to analyze information and communication devices


Implementation of methods and tools from the disciplinary field:

  • Choose and apply a combination of suitable tools, methods and techniques (semiotic analyses, qualitative and quantitative methods in human and social sciences, media techniques, exploitation of digital resources and architectures, documentary engineering), to design and create information systems. information and communication and analyze its reception and uses

  • Have personal experience in the analysis and/or production of information and communication devices, objects and systems.


Digital and digital uses:

  • Use reference digital tools and IT security rules to acquire, process, produce and disseminate information as well as to collaborate internally and externally.


Use of data for analysis purposes:

  • Identify, select and critically analyze various resources in your field of specialty to document a subject and synthesize this data for use

Written and oral expression and communication:

  • Easily use the different registers of written and oral expression of the French language

The content of this Degree is divided into disciplinary courses (theoretical, methodological and practical), professional courses oriented towards three specialties (journalism, communication and cultural mediation), transversal courses (interdisciplinary) and specific courses (adapted course and professional orientations).

Intership

In License 3: compulsory internship in a professional environment (fields of communication, journalism and cultural mediation) or in research in information and communication sciences.

Specific devices

License 1 includes three individualized courses and a tutoring regime ensuring individual and collective monitoring of students.

  • Individualized courses: beyond the classic course (PI1), the individualized course 2 (PI2) offers an educational support system with methodological and disciplinary reinforcement courses, while the individualized course (PI3) offers light training allowing students to complete License 1 in two years and/or supporting them towards an internal/external reorientation

  • Tutoring: provided by students from the License 3 and the Master Information-Communication, the tutoring aims to help (1) with personal work and the organization and management of time; (2) the acquisition of working methods (note-taking, reading sheets and presentations), (3) the understanding of courses (revision and preparation for exams).


At the License 2 and License 3 levels, students benefit from additional lessons supervised by professionals in the professions of communication, journalism and cultural mediation.
The “pro” courses (in both orientations) benefit from the technical platform of the Department of Audiovisual, Multimedia, and Digital Accessibility (DAMAN) of the university, as well as long-standing partnerships, with local businesses (agencies, community communications services, editorial offices, cultural institutions, etc.).
