Training summary

The Master in Chemistry and Life Sciences offers students the opportunity to acquire skills in the chemistry of natural substances and microbiology in both fundamental and applied research. This training is based on the expertise of the Chemistry and Biotechnology of Natural Products laboratory (ChemBioPro) at the University of Reunion.

The lessons taught will place particular emphasis on the valorization of resources from tropical biodiversity in order to prepare students for the major current cross-cutting themes of tropical research: bio-regulations, conservation and management of the biodiversity of tropical ecosystems, impact of climate change and human activities.

Training aims

This training allows you to acquire a high scientific level with dual chemistry/microbiology skills. Its objective is to transmit scientific and methodological knowledge relating to:

  • Constituents of natural terrestrial and marine products (plants, marine invertebrates, microorganisms)

  • Traditional and innovative extraction techniques for natural products

  • fractionation and isolation techniques for natural products

  • Techniques for analyzing natural products

  • Biological activity tests in the context of bioguided fractionations

  • To the valorization of natural substances in the fields of pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, food supplements, agri-food, agriculture, environment and ecology

  • The valorization of natural substances through chemical and biotechnological transformations

  • To law, economics and sociology of the environment.

Advantages of the training

At the end of this training combining fundamental teaching and applied teaching, our students having obtained a high scientific level with dual chemistry/microbiology skills are capable of leading a research or research and development project linked to the valorization of raw materials of natural origin in fields as varied as the pharmaceutical, cosmetic, perfume and agri-food sectors.

This training is aimed at students who want learning that combines concrete teaching through practical work and internships with more theoretical teaching.

Targeted skills
