Training summary
The Master 1 in applied economics preparatory talent course makes it possible to support talented young people from modest origins towards public service careers thanks to reinforced preparation courses for category A and A+, or even B, civil service competitions.
This training is based on a partnership between the University of Reunion, the Prefecture, the Regional Council of Reunion, the regional delegation of the National Center for Territorial Civil Service, the Regional Institute of Ocean Health Management Indian (IRMSOI), the Hospital Center of La Réunion, the Regional Institute of Administration (IRA) of Metz, the Institute of Political Studies (IEP) of Paris.
At the end of this Master 1, students who wish to enter the job market and who have dropped out leave the training. Others can access the Master 2 in applied economics (DDAT course) by simple registration if they have validated their year of M1 EA prep-talents.
The Master of Applied Economics (Master 1 called “classical” and Master 2) allows students in particular to learn to use numerous tools, software and methodologies which will help them to develop a certain mastery of the “data chain”: collection, processing and analysis of data with a view to producing results which will serve as a decision aid. Thanks to the creation of dashboards and the implementation of performance indicators, quantitative surveys, cost-benefit analyses, etc., they will also be required to measure the economic, social and environmental aspects of public or private activities and projects.
This Master's degree also includes a strong "project management" dimension, particularly useful for students who are predestined for positions as mission or operations managers in the field of territorial development.
Finally, the Master also opens the way to research in economics (PhD).
At the Master 2 level, the course is organized around two specialization courses:

- Data collection, processing, analysis and visualization tools and software (R, QGIS, Sphinx, SAS, Talend, MySQL, Tableau Desktop, Power BI)

Advantages of the training
Students have the opportunity to complete an internship or part of the Master's degree (a semester or a full year of study) abroad while being registered at the University of Reunion.

The Master offers students transversal and differentiating skills that can be leveraged in many sectors of activity, including:
• Control of the data chain from the angle of economic analysis. At the end of the Master's degree, students learned to use different tools, methodologies and software allowing them, in numerous contexts, to collect, process and analyze data in order to produce results which will serve as an aid to the decision.
• Measuring the economic, social and environmental impacts of activities, projects and public or private goods (by producing dashboards and setting up performance indicators, quantitative surveys, cost analyses- profits etc.).

Intership
In the second semester of Master 2, students choose to do an internship or a research dissertation. If they choose to complete a research dissertation, they will have to follow introductory research courses.
