Training summary

The Building and Energy specialty provides training focused on project engineering in the field of sustainable, low-consumption buildings, energy systems using renewable energies in particular, with an additional climatic specificity linked to intertropical zones. It prepares future engineers to meet the environmental challenges linked to the buildings of today and tomorrow.

Training aims

The building and energy specialty aims to train high-level competent executives in the field of sustainable building design, particularly in tropical environments.

Two aspects are covered: an adapted design of the building envelope (solar protection, through ventilation, dynamic simulation, etc.) and a thoughtful use of energy systems (in production and consumption).

Advantages of the training

Expertise in building ventilation

The school's partnership with the Institute of Business Administration (IAE) ensures that engineering students receive partial validation of the Master of Business Administration (MAE). Obtaining the latter is conditional on a few additional courses and the writing of a specific dissertation as part of the end-of-study internship.

Targeted skills

Trained engineers will be able to:

  • Design and build sustainable, low-consumption buildings in tropical areas

  • Develop efficient energy solutions, including with renewable energies

  • Have a global understanding of current environmental, societal and economic issues

  • Reduce the environmental impact of the building sector

Summary of lessons by course

The entire training includes 11 months of internship, each semester represents around ten teaching subjects.

A compulsory semester outside Reunion Island with one of our institutional partners must be completed. During this period, engineering students from École Supérieure d'Ingénieurs Réunion Océan Allemand (ESIROI) are integrated into the local promotion while maintaining their registration at the University of Réunion. Educational monitoring is carried out in consultation (definition of a study program) with ESIROI teachers prior to mobility. These partnerships allow engineering students to benefit from all the possibilities offered by international mobility programs and to complete their training with content that is a little different from that of the educational model for the specialty.
The partnership with the IAE makes it possible to provide essential bases in terms of business management, administration or even economics (business creation or takeover, for example).
