Since 2015, the ERASMUS + program has opened outside Europe as part of Action 1 “Mobility of higher education supported by foreign policy funds”. International Credit Mobility projects – (KA -171 – formerly MIC) – consist of carrying out mobilities between Erasmus+ program countries and Erasmus+ program partner countries (outside Europe) all non-European countries)

What type of activities for which audiences?

An international higher education credit mobility project may include one or more of the following activities:

 About the incoming and outgoing mobility for students of higher education:

  • Study period : from the 2nd year of higher studies for a duration ranging from 2 months to 12 months 
  • Internship period: from the 1st year of higher studies, for a duration ranging from 2 months to 12 months
  • Combined mobility: internship period integrated into a study stay for a duration ranging from 2 months to 12 months
  • Hybrid mobility : Association of a remote virtual activity and physical mobility, for a duration ranging from 2 months to 12 months

About the mobility of teachers and higher education staff, lasting from 5 days to 2 months, excluding travel:

  • For a teaching activity: 8 hours of minimum teaching per week. Company personnel may be invited to teach, with no minimum hours.
  • For an incoming training activity : period of internship or observation within a higher education establishment or in any other relevant organization. Eligible activities can also be structured courses and targeted language training.
  • For an outgoing training activity: internship or observation period within a higher education establishment in a partner country – other types of organizations are not eligible. Eligible activities can also be structured courses and targeted language training.
  • Combined mobility: possibility of combining a teaching activity and a training activity over the same period. The minimum number of teaching hours per week is reduced to 4 hours.

International Credit Mobility: testimonials

MIC 2016 Madagascar, UR-UCM economy project

Avotra, Daniel, Flavio and Gérard, are students at the Catholic University of Madagascar. They were selected to be the first students from their establishment to benefit from Erasmus+ “international credit mobility” funding.

Thus, they studied a year in Master “Applied Economics” in 2016-17. At the end of their year, they look back on this experience and what it brought them.


MIC 2016 CAMBODIA – UR-ITC Food and Civil Engineering Project

Boris and Mao are Cambodian students at the Technological Institute of Cambodia (Phnom Penh). They came to study in 4rd year of the ESIROI engineering diploma at the University of Reunion in 2017-18, in the “Agrifood” department. They bear witness to their journey, with the difficult moments and the happier ones of this year very rich in experiences and lessons.
