Thursday, the first day of this ministerial visit ended with a meeting between the Prime Minister and the island's economic players within the Prefecture in Saint-Denis. The University of Reunion, fully committed to serving its territory through the more than 200 training courses offered, the ambition of social and professional integration that it aims for and the research for excellence that it develops, was one of them. . This sequence made it possible to present the institution, the only Reunion, French and European university in the Indian Ocean, its challenges and its projects. A precious time for discussion which continued on Friday during a special meeting with the Minister of Ecological Transition and Territorial Cohesion, Christophe BÉCHU.

Deeply committed to the themes of ecology and sustainable development, the university was able to discuss its strategic objectives in this area and in particular the development of reference campuses in tropical ecology promoting university know-how, the creation of living sites for and by users and the implementation of a responsible and sustainable real estate strategy, in conjunction with our partners and in particular the Department of Reunion, which carries the 1 million trees Plan.

Finally, we had the pleasure of welcoming the Prime Minister and the aforementioned Ministers to the Reunion Atmospheric Physics Observatory (OPAR) on Saturday May 13, in the presence of Mr. Jean-Pierre CAMMAS, Director of the 'Observatory of Universe Sciences in Reunion (OSUR), Mr. Joël VAN BAELEN, Director of the Laboratory of Atmospheric and Cyclone Physics (LACy), Mr. Valentin DUFLOT, scientific manager of OPAR as well as members of the presidential and management team of the University of La Réunion.

Visit by Elisabeth Borne to the Atmospheric Physics Observatory, OPAR, located at Maïdo.

Created in 2003, OPAR today has three distinct measurement sites on the island: the Moufia site, Gillot airport and the Maïdo observation station, which has existed for ten years. The latter, located at an altitude of 2m, allows our scientists to monitor the tropical climate of the Southern Hemisphere. Due to its ideal altitude, it is one of the rare observatories in the world allowing the analysis of atmospheric composition on a large scale at night and on a small scale during the day. These observational assets have also given OPAR the WMO-GAW Global label awarded by the World Meteorological Organization in November 160, placing the observatory among the 2022 global observation stations of this quality level. The ministerial delegation was therefore able to visit this exceptional site hosting internationally recognized research excellence. Last year, the University of La Réunion made its entry into the prestigious Shanghai ranking, for the theme of atmospheric sciences.
