This Friday, September 15, the establishment is organizing a dedicated welcome day for these ever-increasing number of international students, a sign of the attractiveness of its training offer abroad and the dynamism of its exchange programs.

This year, the reception of international students had several highlights:

  • Reception of scholarship holders Erasmus+ / Erasmus+ International Credit Mobility (MIC Projects) 2023 / Excellence scholarship – Horizon ;
  • The award ceremony for our “opening up to the worlds” photo competition, in partnership with Air Austral;
  • Thematic round tables, a welcome meal and a welcome evening.

Welcome to France label renewed with one more star

This back-to-school event, a privileged moment for exchanges, aims to give these students from all over the world all the keys to succeed in their academic year. They were presented with the priorities of the establishment, the faculties and university services as well as the leisure activities and activities available on their campuses. The quality of reception is one of the priorities of the establishment, which saw its label renewed this year Welcome in France, with a second star, which rewards an immediate quality welcome.

Indeed, the university has implemented numerous initiatives aimed at making the stay of its international students a success: support on arrival at the airport, Thursday campus tour operation, connection with student “ambassadors”…

In addition, thanks to the sponsorship platform Buddy System, each international student will be able to find their local “buddy”, guaranteeing a unique university experience. Finally, specific courses are offered to international students, the establishment having had a catalog of courses in English for several years.

5 new mobility programs with Africa

Nearly 2 million euros obtained in support of mobility policy

Very attractive to German, Belgian and Swiss students, the university is also attractive to Canadian and American students and from the Indo-Pacific region (India, Thailand, South Korea, Fiji Islands), thanks to the various exchange programs that it develops (ISEP, DAAD, BCI, PPI, etc.) and the visibility obtained thanks to the labeling Welcome in France.

Building on its geographical position, the establishment, as the only European university in the area, is actively working to intensify student mobility, part of the African Union/European Union roadmap.

 The University of Reunion is opening 5 new mobility programs with Africa this year: 2 with Madagascar, 2 with Rwanda, 1 with Burkina Faso.

Of these 5 programs, two new programs “cross mobility” (with Madagascar and Rwanda).

Initiated by the French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs in order to strengthen mobility and exchanges between the African continent and France, this strategic program aims to contribute to the scientific advancement of the two countries by financing visits of short-term exchange of graduate students in thematic areas of mutual interest.

It will allow 8 Malagasy students and 4 Rwandan students to complete a semester of university studies recognized in the home establishment in each of the host establishments.

Furthermore, our establishment stands out on the national level by rising the 3rd place on more than 150 establishments of French higher education winners of the ERASMUS+ 2023 “Mobility of students and staff in higher education” program.

It has just obtained €884 to support this mobility of students and staff with Rwanda, Burkina Faso, Madagascar and has seen its Franco-Ethiopian consortium project renewed for an amount of €090, thus confirming its know-how in terms of setting up and monitoring mobility projects.

A university attracting talent

The University of Reunion will also have the pleasure of welcoming a winner of the prestigious Eiffel scholarship program and the 9 excellence scholarship recipients from the HORIZON Excellence Scholarship program, financed with its own funds.

The latter, which aims to attract the best foreign students into master's and doctoral level degree courses from French higher education establishments, makes it possible to train future international decision-makers in priority areas of study such as economics. , engineering sciences for the master's level and sciences in the broad sense for the doctorate.
