Description of the WEU
The zistoir, the proverbs, the picnics on Sunday, the pitch hunt, the “zespri”, December 20, etc… traditions still alive in Reunion?
This 20-hour UEO will allow you to meet and experience Reunionese culture through its traditions and through Creole literature. The discovery of literary texts, poems and songs will allow each student to live or re-live traditions which sometimes begin to be forgotten. The aim of understanding the latter is to understand Creole culture but also Reunionese culture, the cement of society, but also Reunionese society and its way of living.
This UEO will also aim to discover the Creole language (lexicon, word games, expressions) which carries these Creole traditions. This study of traditions through literature will allow us to discover how the process of creolization took place at the level of culture on the island and in general: what is cultural creolization? What “met”? What merged? What was the final “creation”? What remains of each culture in this new product? This is therefore the guideline and content of this UEO: the discovery of Creole traditions, their origins, their histories and their evolutions in Reunion but also in other Creole-speaking spaces
