Description of the WEU

Discovery of another cultural air:

The Arab world is going through one of the most critical periods in its history. And if it is at the heart of international news, it is mainly for negative reasons (attacks, political and/or social crises, Islamism, corruption, status of women, etc.).

The proposed WEU therefore aims to discover the history and culture of a rich and complex civilization whose beginnings date back to the XNUMXth century. It invites synthetic and transversal approaches to cross numerous fields (literature, philosophy, art, science, theology, etc.) ranging from the classical period to the extreme contemporary.

By historicizing the problems and contextualizing the issues, this WEU's primary objective is to strengthen the general culture relating to the Arab world. It is therefore aimed at curious students, wishing for intellectual openness, in the manner of the “honest man” of the XNUMXth century. But it can also encourage vocations of Arabists which France greatly needs (diplomacy, economy, cultural relations, etc.)

The educational approach will be multifaceted (courses, tutorials, seminars, round tables); and various working documents: speeches, literary texts, geographical maps, extracts from films, documentaries, radio broadcasts, etc.

Students will also be required to present presentations on historical, cultural, economic or geopolitical aspects.
