Description of the WEU
Learning a new foreign language: Tamil
In Reunion, there is a significant part of the community of Indian origin, where Tamil is one of the ancestral languages which underpins Reunion Creole culture. Tamil is a classical and living language spoken in South India and several other countries.
Through this opening teaching, we will learn to read, write, express ourselves orally, as well as the grammatical bases and the essential vocabulary of daily life. We will also discuss Indian literature and civilization, as well as its history. Finally, we will see the similarities between Indian civilization and Reunionese civilization, by identifying the Tamil vocabulary which is found in the Creole language. This teaching is part of the objective of developing knowledge of this language and reconnecting with Tamil culture.
