Erasmus +

Created in 1987, this European higher education program owes its name to Desiderius Erasmus Rotterdamus, known as Erasmus of Rotterdam (1465-1536), a Dutch humanist, philosopher and theologian who campaigned for peace in Europe.

The European Erasmus Program (Community Action Program in the field of Education) includes, for Higher Education, two mobility components: study stay at university and  internship in Europewhich is not discussed here.

Created in 1987, ERASMUS is the first European cooperation program in higher education.
The ERASMUS study stay : more than 1000 students from our University have already benefited from this system.

The Erasmus + adventure

Do you want to try the Erasmus + adventure?

Our Erasmus+ candidate guide 2024-25 (UPDATE 13/03/2024) summarizes the conditions and procedure to follow, the list of partner universities by discipline and the educational manager of each agreement.

However, we advise you to regularly consult the updates of our website, in particular regarding the file submission dates which may be brought forward by our partners.

Pay attention to all the postings that we make in the components (faculties, schools, institutes)

Institutions negotiate bilateral agreements, promoting reciprocity of trade. The University of Reunion is a signatory of agreements with several European establishments outside of which no exchange is authorized under the ERASMUS+ system.

For the student it is necessary:

  • to be registered at the University of Reunion,
  • to have completed the first year of higher education studies. Priority is given to students who have even completed the 2nd year of the Bachelor's degree.

Selection will depend on academic results and/or opinions of teachers (behavior, seriousness, attendance), language skills, motivation of the candidate (personal project, ability to adapt/integrate into a new environment).

Search for information:

  • Complete an application form, to be submitted online.
  • You will then need to print the online form and deposit it with the Teacher-Researcher responsible for ERASMUS+ exchanges in your faculty or institute, as well as university transcripts from previous years.
  • A selection is made within the department to which you belong.

    Meet deadlines :

The form must be given to the ERASMUS coordinator or contact person for your component.

The selection of candidates is based on taking into account academic results from previous years and motivation (between mid-March and the end of March) by the ERASMUS relay Teacher-Researchers in the faculties and components.

The selected candidates are then retained subject to success in the May-June exams or in the catch-up session at the end of June depending on the faculties. You must contact the ERASMUS exchange managers.

The International Relations Department (DRI) will send an email to the selected students.

The DRI will send each student an e-mail indicating where to obtain the application forms specific to the European partner universities (the documents can be downloaded from the universities' websites).

Between mid-June and early July, once the exam results are known, the file is finalized.

    • the DRI gives the student documents to take to the host university to prove your status as an Erasmus student:
    • the DRI confirms your arrival or withdrawal from the partner university

    Before leaving

The student must register administratively and educationally at the University of La Réunion (General education), in order to be able to obtain their diploma upon their return from mobility, subject to having passed the exams at the host university.

Social coverage and insurance: this is carried out by agreements between France and other European states [European health insurance card to be obtained from your student mutual insurance]; in addition, subscription to hospitalization, civil liability and repatriation insurance is mandatory. In June, the DRI sets up a preparatory meeting.

Platform language tests and courses OLS :

Who should take the tests? TOUS students undertaking mobility must:

    • take a first test after their selection;
    • a 2nd test upon return of their mobility

Except for those who go to a country where the main language is their native language.

What objective? Measure the acquisition of language skills during your mobility.

The DRI is responsible for sending these tests.

    Download the language test presentation

    Who can take online courses?

    • All students who have a level lower than or equal to B1 on their first level test will automatically receive an email giving them access to the courses;
    • Other students can contact the DRI to have access to it if we have enough licenses left.

Academic recognition of mobility is a key element of the international policy of the University of La Réunion. By adhering to the Erasmus university charter, the University of Reunion is committed to managing study stays in compliance with the ECTS (European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System) system.

Furthermore, each student going on a study mobility has a study contract.

For more information, please visit this document on academic recognition of mobility.

    Financial support

The student can benefit from financial aid from several partners.

Each funding partner imposes its own conditions of access to scholarships:

    • Erasmus+ Mobility Grant (European Commission), paid by the DRI in two installments (at the start and end of mobility), after receipt of the certificates and the Erasmus+ mobility report and the OLS test (online).
The Erasmus+ scholarship allocation is €786. It is a partial grant: a mobility of one year will receive 5.5 months of grant, a mobility of one semester will receive 3.5 months of grant.
    • Réunion Regional Council
    • Support from LADOM Reunion
    • International Mobility Grants from the Ministry of National Education, Higher Education and Research (reserved for State or CROUS scholarship holders), paid by the DRI, after return of the certificate Erasmus arrival.

For more information, please contact the Mobility Exchange Manager.

Please note: all these files must be collected in mid-May and submitted to the DRI at the beginning of July. The DRI transmits them to the financing organizations.

    Special cases

The Erasmus + program pays particular attention to reception, orientation and educational and technical support and especially to the additional costs linked to the mobility of individuals with disabilities. The aim is to ensure that every individual fully benefits from their European mobility experience.

Each higher education establishment, by signing the Erasmus+ Charter for Higher Education (ECHE), is committed to ensuring equal access and mobility opportunities for participants from all backgrounds. Consequently, individuals with disabilities can benefit from the support services that the host institution offers to its students and staff. Here for information is the notes.

Decree 2016—1483 of November 2, 2016 reinstated authorization to leave the territory for minors as of January 15, 2017 (article 371-6 of the civil code). This measure peut impact your “Erasmus+” mobility projects.

You will find attached the DGESCO information point which summarizes the decree of December 13, 2016, setting out the terms of application.

This formality is essential for outings, studies or internships outside the national territory. Establishments are responsible for collecting outing authorizations signed by the two legal guardians of the participating students. All minors residing in France regardless of their nationality are concerned

It will also be necessary to verify that minors have a copy of the identity document of their signing legal guardians when crossing the border.

    Advice to travelers

Finally, it is strongly recommended to consult the “travel advice” section of the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in order to find out the practical details of entry and security for the different countries and to register your student trips at the foreigner on the “Ariane” site to allow you to have real-time advice and recommendations on your trip.

These provisions have been developed to reinforce the level of security of the mobility of minors as part of their schooling and the education projects that you have built.

    Once there

The student must first complete an administrative registration and an educational registration : registration fees are not due because they were paid to the University of La Réunion. A photocopying and public transport package can be requested, but these amounts remain low.

Modification of the on-site educational contract: for various reasons, the study contract may give rise to timetable incompatibilities, course cancellations or courses limited by a pre-established number of places.

In this case, you must contact the professor at the University of Reunion who helped you establish your study contract before leaving so that he can validate the modification(s) that you propose.

Please note: any modification must obtain prior agreement and signature otherwise the stay may not be validated upon return to Reunion to obtain the diploma.

Don't forget to download the study contract modification form to send to the DRI who will forward it to the educational manager.

Once there, the student will have documents to send to the DRI:

    • a copy of the study contract approved by the host university or the proposed modifications to the study contract in agreement with the host university,
    • a certificate of arrival at the Establishment, necessary to make the first payments of aid linked to your Erasmus+ mobility.

At the end of the stay

At the end of your stay, documents will also be sent to the DRI

    • the Erasmus+ end of stay certificate, necessary to pay you the balance of aid linked to your Erasmus mobility
    • of the detailed Erasmus+ mobility report required by the Europe Education Training France Agency
    • transmission of original transcripts to the DRI. Obtaining your result and/or your diploma can only be validated by the Examination Board in Reunion if these documents have been provided within the required time frame.
